Assignment 1 for Scenery Class

Welcome everyone! I am emsoftball9 or Emily - you may call me either one of those - and I’m totally psyched to be teaching the Scenery Class! As you have read, this class is about learning 4 of the 5 most important things in a scenery. We are taking out Poses, because that’s advanced and right now Ruby School is getting down on the basics. That leaves us with the Background, Scene, Fashion/Outfit, and Concept.

There is some clarification that needs to happen when discussing these 4 elements. Some people assume the background is the scene. WRONG. The scene consists of the background meaning the background is part of the scene, but the background is not just the scene and vice versa. So below there is each of the four elements and what they are in the scenery.

Scene – the setting; who, what (what’s going on and the items there), when and where. Example: (using the nighttime beach scenery background) Bunch of people, party & sodas, snacks and pizzas, in the evening (certain times can apply), at the beach. The scene is what you see when you look at the scenery.

Background – what is in the background of the scenery. Example: the sun is setting on the ocean that lies against the sandy beach. It’s almost, not quite, but almost like the set in a movie.

Concept – Does everything make sense? This means does everything fit? Not just putting random items in to fill up the space. Example: don’t put a dinosaur swimming in the ocean. In some cases, you have to put items in to RESEMBLE other things. In that case, it’s fine. So if the dinosaur is (and never use this because it still won’t make sense) resembling a shark, then it’s like ‘Okay, it’s just there to resemble a shark’. But for things to resemble well, they have to be in close relation. The quote I just said probably wouldn’t ever happen because if you see a dinosaur in an ocean, you’re not going to think right away, “Oh, it’s supposed to be a shark,” but more like, “What the heck is a dinosaur doin’ in an ocean!?” I like to think of it as why are you creating this scenery? What is the point

Fashion/Outfit – This is an obvious one. What’s the fashion/what are people wearing in this scenery. This can categorize under Concept because it has to make sense. If you go to a beach/beach party, you’ll NORMALLY see people wearing their swimming suit, Hawaiian shirt, sandals/flip-flops, and if it’s a party, maybe some summer dresses. It’s what would normally be seen. The reason it can categorize under Concept is because, it has to make sense what people are wearing or showcasing. (Showcasing as in if you’re in Paris and you look inside a store’s window, you probably aren’t going to find old jeans paired with a stained top)

Okay, now onto the assignment portion. Because it’s summer break (at least here in the US) I would like you to create a scenery based of Summer. This is a little less structured because I’m not telling you exactly what you have to put in it. In this scenery the only thing I’m telling you to do is make a scenery about summer, so the rest is up to you in terms of what to put in it.

You have 5 days to complete this so this is due Saturday, July 16, 2011. You will make a tinypic of this assignment. Thanks and if you have any questions or concerns, please message me! Thanks again!

~emsoftball9 (Emily)

Assignment 1 for Magazine Class

Hello everyone, hope you are as psyched about this as I am! For the first task, we will be doing covers! I’m sure most of you as you read the word “covers” had some idea of what you wanted to do pop into your head and this is your chance to do it. This is a task where you can let out your creativity, and the possibilities as to how you could do it are nearly endless! Also remember to create and include a title for your magazine and make it clear! It’s also a good idea to choose what kind of magazine you want it to be; whether it’s a lifestyle magazine, a fashion magazine or a home décor magazine (The last one’s probably not going to happen). You will do the magazine cover on the cover of your album. Make sure it is on the cover because we are making the cover, right?

Rubric (How I will be marking you):

How well they made the layout; if it was clear: /10
If they put time, quality and effort into it: /10
If they finished by specified due date: /10
If they put the cover on the actual cover: /5
How well they put originality and creativity in their work: /10
If they clearly put the magazine name on the cover: /10
If they followed the specifications: /5
If they made it interesting and added their own personal style to it: /10
If they included a covergirl and put cover lines (see bottom of this post): /10
Total score: /80

If you want a perfect mark, follow all of the above and I’m sure you’ll do great! I’m looking forward to seeing all those entries! This task is due on Friday, July 15, 2011, so please get it done on time! You have 5 days to complete any task, and also I will be on vacation (rest assured I’ll be back on time before the marking), but I will likely not be able to answer questions, assuming I am able to come on. If you have any questions, ask NashvilleStar33. Good luck!

*Cover lines: I’m going to save you the awkward questions about this, coverlines are the things on the cover that say things like “100 Ways to Stop Stress!” or “New Spring Trends!”, I’m going to tell you again that it’s a good idea to choose what kind of magazine you want to do before you decide what you want the cover lines to be.

Assignment 1 for the Beauty Parlor Class

Hey everyone in my class! I hope you are all excited for the first assignment. I definitely am. Now let’s get to it:
You will be making your doll inspired by summer. When I think of summer I think of bright and vibrant colors, flowers, sunshine, beach, and things like that. So first you should ask yourself what reminds me of summer because that will give you inspiration. Then go to your beauty parlor and change everything you want for this look that you can’t do in the Starplaza. Some things are your hair style, hair color, head shape, freckles, blush, eyes, eye color, lips, lip color, eyebrows, eyebrow color, eyebrow transparency, nose, chest size, leg size, and skin color. Haha, sorry I listed all of them. You could put make-up on if you want to but you will end up removing it. So now make your way over to the Starplaza. You can only use things from the Beauty section and don’t worry about the nail stores. You can use everything else to make your doll look inspired by summer. The good thing is that you don’t have to buy anything and you can use superstar things even if you aren’t one! All you have to do is take a tinypic of your work. Go to the topic “Tanypic Tutorial” or “Tanypic Tutorial- Mac” to learn how to take a tinypic. Then you can send me the link of your work.
Another option is that you could use your very own make-up, jewelry, and things from your beauty parlor. So instead just do your doll in your beauty parlor using only your things. Then take a tinypic of it and send me the link.

Here is the Rubric on how you will be graded-
How well it is inspired by summer: /10
How well they put their own personal style into the look: /10
How well it looks like they put effort into it: /10
How well it is original and creative: /10
Followed Directions: /5
On Time: /5
Total Score: /50

Each assignment you will have 5 days to complete. So this is due on Friday, July 15, 2011. If you have any questions about this assignment, please contact me. Have fun. Bye.

Sign Up for Classes Now! UPDATED

***UPDATE!!! Sorry I wasn’t clear on this before. If you want to sign up for a class, you have to message me or leave me a gb comment. DO NOT write the classes you want to be in under the topic in RubySchool. If you do, you will not be signed up for your classes and will be sent a message telling you to sign up for classes the right way. So please don’t add that extra step in there. Thanks. ♥♥♥
Hurry to sign up because spots are filling up quickly! I mean REALLY, REALLY quickly. So quick that soon, some classes will be full. Keep on signing up and please tell your friends about this! Below is the original post.

So finally you can sign up for classes. Below I will give a description of each class. Feel free to sign up for any number of classes but make sure you can handle it. If you are busy, don’t sign up for every class. But if you are free, you can sign up for every class. So make sure you can handle what you sign up for. Now here are the descriptions:

Beauty Parlor Class hosted by NashvilleStar33- In this class you don’t have to own any jewelry, hair accessories, hair dye, hair highlights, make-up or anything you use in your beauty parlor. All you have to do is just go to starplaza and use everything from there. Assignments will consist of themes like do a casual look, a red carpet look, a natural look, etc. Things like that. I hope it will be fun for you. Sign up for this class if you love spending time in your beauty parlor doing your doll’s hair and make-up and adding accessories to make her look fab!

Scenery Class hosted by emsoftball9- If you love making sceneries for fun, sign up for this class. In this class we focus on 4 out of the 5 elements of a scenery. They are Background, Scene, Concept, and Fashion/Outfit. We do not use the Pose element because this is not advanced and it is just for fun. This class is similar to my “Model Comps” I used host in some of my clubs. Other people I know also host them. They assign you challenges and you have to create a scenery. For example, a challenge would be create a scenery about animals. Then you would create a scenery about animals. As simple as that.

Magazine/Album Class hosted by Mistinapril11- Sign up for this class if you ever wanted to be writer for magazines and be surrounded by them. In this class you will be working in your album to create your own magazine. For the first assignment you will have to create a magazine name and cover. Then the following assignments you will be creating pages to go in your magazine. You must have your cover open and at least 10 pages open following that. It might be less, though. If you have things there, just move them somewhere else. I don’t think anything else is more important than this! J

Fashion/Outfit Class hosted by berenika211- This class is similar to my Beauty Parlor Class. You don’t have to own all the latest clothes and accessories, or make-up and jewelry. Just go to starplaza and use everything from there. Assignments will consist of styles. For example, some styles would be girly, preppy, goth, etc. So one assignment might be to dress your doll up with a girly style. (Hint, go to Pretty In Pink!) Sign up for this class if you love to dress up your doll in all these amazing outfits and also sign up if you love to be around clothes, accessories, fashion and things like that!

If you are interesting in signing up for a class or multiple classes, contact me. Either by message OR guestbook comment. I might not be able to see your entire message in a friend request so don’t friend request me. Also, you should already be friends with me because I posted a topic to friend request all of the instructors. In your message say the class or classes you want to sign up for. Here is an example message:
